The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has constituted a six-member Group of Ministers (GOM) to recommend necessary amendments in the GST laws and other legal changes for setting up the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT).

In the 47th GST Council meeting chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman last month, it was decided to constitute a GoM to address the various concerns raised by the states regarding the constitution of GSTAT.

A Finance Ministry statement said, in its 47th meeting held on June 28-29 at Chandigarh, the GST Council discussed necessary changes in the provisions relating to GST Appellate Tribunal in the GST laws so that it can be considered for various aspects relating to tribunals. to be brought in conformity with the decisions of the courts in this regard.

The notification said that the GoM on GSTAT will recommend necessary amendments in the GST laws to ensure that the legal provisions are in line with the overall objective of equitable taxation within the country to maintain the right federal balance.

The GOM will submit its report by July 31 for the consideration of the Goods and Services Tax Council.
